21st July 2010: Converteam agrees to reprise three lectures from the Rolling Mill Academy as part of the UKACC International Conference on Control, September 2010.
The papers to be presented cover tandem cold mill gauge control and hot strip mill gauge and temperature control. They will form part of the 'Industry' section, scheduled for Wednesday 8th September 2010. Full details can be found at the event web page http://vs-ec-ctacconf.coventry.ac.uk/drupal-6.14.


17th May 2010: The 2010 International Rolling Mill Academy in Kolkata attracted 38 delegates from many leading steel and aluminium producers and suppliers. The event comprised three days of lectures and practical sessions using Converteam Mill Simulation packages for thickness and flatness control on hot and cold rolling mills.

8th September 2009: Results for C-Mn steel and HSLA steel from the Microstructure Simulator developed by Converteam are available for viewing here


29th October 2008: A simulation of the width profiling model presented at the 2008 International Rolling Mill Academy is available for viewing here.


17th October 2008: Successful 2008 Rolling Mill Academy (hosted by Converteam) at the Ashorne Hill Convention Centre near Leamington Spa with 32 delegates attending from 6 countries.


23 May 2007: The Rolling Academy in Shanghai attracted 46 delegates from 15 steel companies from China, India, Europe and South America. The Ramada Plaza hotel on the bustling Nanjing road close to the People's Square hosted the academy. The delegates were able to experience Shanghai life in the old town and on the Bund after a hard day’s work. A traditional Chinese banquet was held midweek and on the Friday afternoon a visit was made to the Morgan Construction factory in Shanghai.


14 Mar 2006: The Rolling Academy in Amsterdam was attended by 46 delegates from countries including: USA, China, Argentina, India, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil and Croatia. The location for the Academy was the Jolly Carlton Hotel beside the floating flower market and Munt tower. This central location enabled the delegates to enjoy the sights of Amsterdam after a hard days work. The Academy banquet was held in the De Kas restaurant, a renovated greenhouse using only the freshest produce for their innovative meals.

22 Jul 2005: Gerald Hearns, Peter Reeve, Paul Smith and Tony Bilkhu of Alstom Power Conversion have been awarded the Institution of Electrical Engineers Control Theory and Application Premium for the IEE journal paper "Hot Strip Mill Multivariable Mass Flow Control", July 2004. They will be presented with the £500 prize and certificate at the Tustin Lecture at Savoy Place on 4 May 2006. All of the authors have worked for many years on the application of multivariable controllers in hot strip mills.

27 April 2005: The Rolling Academy in Pittsburgh was attended by 65 delegates from countries including: USA, Canada, Brazil, India, China, S. Africa and Hungary. The Academy location in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center was a success with eveyone enjoying the great views of the Pittsburgh skyline and the river during break time. To provide some relaxation from an intensive week of lectures and practicals the delegates attended the Pittsburgh Pirates v St Louis Cardinals baseball game where the home team lost 7-1. Also they enjoyed a dinner cruise around the three rivers on the Gateway clipper.
